Though this movie was not released, I think it is the darkest Indian movie I have ever watched, and it doesn’t come as a surprise that the movie was directed by Anurag Kashyap, who has challenged conventional film making norms throughout his career. The movie is:
PAANCH(Five in Hindi)
I was just stunned by the character development, and the movie has a dark undertone even when something pleasant is about to happen. You doubt the intentions of each move made by the characters, as the story unfolds and you have an unexplainable feeling ,that most dark movies leave you with when they end.
The movie revolves around the already miserable lives of 5 wannabe Rockstars, who form a band, and take a dark path to make their lives even more miserable. There is some black comedy as well, which again results in very serious consequences. Dialogue delivery is a class apart. The movie turns darker as it progresses.
One of the few films that challenged norms that the society has set for women. The cast is excellent, and nothing seems to be forced. The violence, abuses, and, dark un-catchy music make the movie look even more natural and relatable.
A must watch for all dark cinema lovers! And you can watch it online or download through torrent as the movie was never released, thus there is no risk of being booked for piracy.

BA Pass:-
A dark movie with a gigolo story is definitely not the kind of flick you’d want to watch with any family member around whatsoever.
Sins:-
If you’re a movie buff, you’d definitely know about this hugely controversial movie starring Shiney Ahuja which was all about $ex and some more $ex! Well, now you know which movie definitely NOT to watch with your elders!
Mohalla Assi
This one is another recent film which has been banned by the Censor Board. Starring Sakshi Tanwar and Sunny Deol, the film is based on the inhabitants of the famous neighborhood in Varanasi, and it explores the commercialization of the holy city and the foreigner tourists are being fooled there.
7 Khoon Maaf (2011)
Vishal Bharadwaj movies always have thrives on Crime based stories. Most of his movies are the Hindi adaptation of the Shakespeare’s novel or it is related to the crime related stories. One of the movies that he directed with Priyanka Chopra was ‘7 Khoon Maaf’. The story was so complexed that it didn’t have into audience head and the movie was turned into a flop affair. It was only appreciated by Film.
Ek Thi Daayan (2013)
The film is about a successful magician who starts having constant hallucinations which starts distracting him in his magic acts. He is haunted by the death of his father and sister, a ‘Daayan’ killed them. The powerful witch promised that she will return for him one day. The film is a blend of magic, supernatural, occult and suspense, it is the most unusual Bollywood film that you’ll ever see.

I would say, Gulaal (2009)
Of all the Anurag Kashyap films that managed to make their way to theatres this was the darkest, with a lot of disturbing scenes and dialogues. Many of them were implied though, not enacted.
Dileep, a student of law, lands in a fictional town of Rajpur, and happen to share accommodation with Ransa, an unapologetic brat from a royal family. A ragging incident gone wrong and his friendship with Ransa, drags him into the spiral of student politics, deceit, corruption, heartbreak and fight for royal legitimacy.
They portrayed student politics in the most unabashed form, showing college election rigging, fest money used for ulterior political motives, all-is-fair fight for power, and stooping to the lowest levels possible for your end result.
These have been shown time and again, but Anurag Kashyap paid a lot of attention to the detailing, and each character had an impact of his own, even the insignificant corrupt police officer who walks to his own dug up grave, resigning with acceptance, as Dukey Bana shoots him down. Some of the amazing dialogues are,
Manipulation at it's best!
Bitterness that came with experience!
Gives an F*** about Royalty!
When she had nothing else to lose…
Mockery of the Indian democratic setup, by naming cocktails after political terms.
This movie shakes you to the core and the climatic song Duniya is a cherry on the cake making one wonder about the futility of life and desire.

Well, Bollywood is very well known for producing movies where everything just falls at the right places in the end. Nevertheless, there are very few dark Bollywood movies in my list, the darkest of which all is definitely the movie- UGLY. With a splendid direction by Anurag Kashyap, this movie is well known for its ugly climax. This movie revolves around the kidnapping of a 10-year-old girl. AK very intelligently took this incident to portray the deep gray thoughts of the people, how we do not hesitate in taking an advantage of an ugly situation for our very own benefits.
The plot of the movie is very dark, the lives of the characters are all messed up and I would suggest you not to watch this movie if you are in Christmas mood.
